Washington DC, day 1

We went to Washington DC this weekend with the Jacksons! We traveled all together in Kyle's truck (it was like the Clampetts) and arrived late Friday night. Even though it was raining, we got started early on Saturday (after a buffet breakfast courtesy of the hotel since we didn't get the adjoining rooms we had requested). No time to waste since we only had 2 days!
Our first stop was the Capitol. We didn't get to take a tour, but we'll put it on our list for next time!
We didn't tour the National Archives either, but it was a beautiful building.
We did tour the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. We saw some really cool things, including
the Hope Diamond and other beautiful gems/jewelry and lots of dead animals.
Your stroller cover was a life saver! Obviously when it was raining Saturday morning, but also Saturday afternoon when it was just really windy.
We had lunch at a yummy BBQ place that had been recommended by Carolyn's friend who lives in DC. And our next stop was The White House!
We stopped by the Washington Monument next.
From the Washington Monument you can see the Capitol Building in one direction and the Lincoln Memorial in the other.
We got 4:30 tickets to tour Ford's Theatre, which is where President Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865 (he died the next day).
There you and I are next to the booth where President Lincoln was sitting when he was shot.
After touring Ford's Theatre, we had a few minutes before dinner, so we went to the National Portrait Gallery and walked around the American Presidents exhibit. It was really neat to see the how much the portraits changed over the years- from not smiling and just sitting to more casual, artsy poses.
John F. Kennedy (1961-1963- assassinated) and Bill Clinton (1993-2001)
George W. Bush (2001-2009) and George H.W. Bush (1989-1993)
We had dinner at Hard Rock Cafe and you and Clifton were pretty much at your wits end by then!
Y'all did great all day- sleeping in your strollers and everything!
Clifton's Tutu made y'all matching shirts for the trip!
It was a great first day of our weekend getaway!
