Happy Independence Day!
This morning we took off with the Jacksons for Jordan Lake State Park! We're glad we got there earlier rather than later because it filled up quickly! We put our chairs and cooler out in a great shady, grassy area near the lake and then did a little hike around the area. We then spent the rest of our time eating a picnic lunch and enjoying the beautiful weather! (there might have been some people watching…)
We left Jordan Lake around 2:15, so that the kids could go home and take naps before the evening's activity- grilling out! The Jacksons came over around 5:30 and we had burgers and banana pudding! Delicious meal with wonderful company!
Your first 4th of July was a hit and the fireworks that your Daddy and I could hear a few minutes ago didn't wake you up! WIN!

oatmeal cereal
This morning we gave you oatmeal cereal for the first time! We mixed it with frozen breast milk.
You didn't love it, but you didn't just spit it right back out!

FOOD
There was one this this past week that was a new experience for everyone: you eating solid foods!
When we stayed with the Jacksons, your Dad gave you a couple of bites of broccoli and avocado, but this week was the real jumping off point for feeding you!
We've decided to mostly do the "baby-led weaning" method of introducing solids (which I had researched extensively and apparently your Dad had not, but he's up to speed now). So we'll mostly be giving you whole, soft versions of what we're eating. But we also plan on doing oatmeal cereal, so we're not 100% BLW.
So the first night (Monday, 6/23) we tried yellow squash and carrots. Now I did not boil the carrots long enough (hey, I'm new at all this), so they didn't work out so well. And the squash was soft enough, but this was the point where we realized that your Dad didn't exactly the concept of BLW and wanted to mash it all up and put it on a spoon. So we just tried to let you try it from our fingers or a spoon that night. We got to start somewhere!
Wednesday you tried half a banana (your Dad did some research and understood the concept better). You took a bite and it scared Rah Rah and Nana, but you did great!
That night we gave you a quarter of an avocado and while not much actually got in your mouth, you enjoyed playing with it and moving it around your tray!
It was messy, but you loved it and I loved it (your Dad is warming up to it).
I can't wait to see you experience foods for the first time!
It will be an experience, but we are definitely up for the challenge!
